I had a really interesting question this week… “Lorna, how do you stay positive?”

So, let’s talk about staying positive! Because life can feel like a whirlwind sometimes and it’s easy to get caught up in stress, doubt and setbacks.

But here’s the thing – positivity is a practice, not just a personality trait.

Here are a few things that help me stay upbeat:

💡 Start the day by filling your cup
Doing something just for you in the morning sets the tone for the whole day. This is why I’m such a fan of early workouts – they give you energy, headspace and a massive mood boost before the day even begins.

💡 Reframe setbacks
Not everything goes to plan, but instead of beating yourself up, ask: “What can I learn from this?” Every challenge is an opportunity to grow. We fail forwards, not backwards!

💡 Flip negative thoughts
When your mind starts spiralling, pause and ask – “Is this actually true? Or am I catastrophizing?” We often worry about things that haven’t even happened, putting ourselves through stress twice!

💡 Treat yourself like you would a friend
That means moving your body, fuelling it properly (not skipping meals and living off snacks!), getting enough rest and speaking to yourself with kindness. You wouldn’t tell a friend she’s failing – so why say it to yourself?

💡 Focus on what you can control
So much of what stresses us out is outside our control. Instead of worrying, ask: “What’s one small thing I can do to feel better today?” Then do it.
