Is It Wrong To Not Have A Rest Day?

Happy Sunday everyone! I hope you’re having a lovely, relaxing weekend so far.

Before we dive into the week ahead, I wanted to touch on something that comes up quite a lot – rest days.

Whether you’re working towards fat loss, strength, or general fitness, it’s easy to feel like every day should be a workout day.

The more the better right? Hmmm, not always… to a point and once you get past that point, it really does hamper your progress to do more and more and more.

But is it really wrong to take a day off?

If you’ve ever wondered whether it’s wrong to skip a rest day, you’re not alone.

It’s easy to think that constantly pushing ourselves in workouts will lead to faster results, especially if we’re on a fat loss journey. But the truth is, rest days are an essential part of a balanced and healthy fitness routine.

When you work out, you’re actually creating small micro-tears in your muscles. This is completely normal, and it’s how our bodies get stronger and fitter. However, these muscles need time to repair themselves – and that’s where rest comes in. It’s not the stretching or cool-down that rebuilds your muscles, but rather the rest, protein, water, and sleep that allow them to recover and grow stronger.

Skipping rest days can lead to something called Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness (DOMS). You know that achy feeling you get a day or two after a tough workout? That’s DOMS, and it’s a sign that your muscles need recovery time. By continuing to push through it without giving your body a break, you risk overtraining, which can lead to injury, burnout, and a lack of progress.

So, should you rest?

Absolutely!

Rest days give your muscles the time they need to rebuild, which ultimately leads to better performance. If you’re feeling sore, that’s your body’s way of telling you to rest or to focus on a different part of your body.

It’s easy to feel like taking a rest day might set you back, but in reality, rest is just as important as the workouts themselves. Instead of thinking about rest days as a setback, consider them a vital part of your fitness journey.
