Let’s be completely honest for a second… we all let our healthy habits slip.
It is SO normal. It is just part of being a human being! We all go a bit off track from time to time, and when we do, we just have to adjust our course ever so slightly.
One of the most important things you can do for your wellbeing is to regularly hit the “reset” button. Taking a step back to recalibrate should never be seen as a failure. In fact, intentionally pausing to reset your routine is one of the smartest ways to keep your long-term goals alive.
If you have been putting your health and fitness on the back burner recently, grab a cuppa and let’s talk about how to break down that overwhelming brick wall and get moving again.
The Airplane Analogy: Why We All Need a Course Correction
I recently heard a brilliant analogy on a podcast about how habits work, and it perfectly describes why regular fitness resets are so crucial.
They were talking about an airplane in flight. For a plane to reach its destination, it needs to be going directly on track. If the nose of the plane points just one degree off route, by the time it completes its journey, it will end up miles and miles away from where it was supposed to land.
Our fitness and nutrition habits are exactly the same.
If we are one degree off right now, we don’t need to panic or completely overhaul our lives. We just need a little course correction to get straight back on route. Implementing regular “resets” throughout your year ensures that those tiny, one-degree slips don’t turn into a complete derailment of your goals.
Overcoming the “Brick Wall” of Fitness
When we don’t catch those slips early, things get much harder.
If you have been out of a routine for a while, getting back into good habits can feel like standing in front of a massive brick wall. It feels huge, intimidating and impossible to scale. The longer you wait, the bigger the wall gets.
So, what is the best way to move forward if you are staring at that brick wall right now?
… you just start picking at it.
You simply have to make a start. The absolute best way to get anywhere is to draw a line in the sand and take that first step.
Embrace “Messy Action” (Yes, Pyjama Workouts Count!)
When you are trying to break down the brick wall, perfection is your worst enemy.
Your start might be messy. It might not be perfect. It might look like doing a six-minute core workout in your pants. And you know what? That is fine. Great. Perfect.
I recently shared a little story on Instagram showing what my own workouts look like in this current chapter of my life. It was early at the weekend, I was literally still in my pyjamas, Autumn was in the room treating me like brilliant entertainment and Harvey, the dog, was joining in too.
It was messy. But it got done.
If your workout is messy right now, that is completely okay! Getting a messy, imperfect workout done will always yield better results than waiting for the “perfect” moment that never arrives.
The Power of Writing It Down (and Staying Accountable)
If you want to start your reset today, absolutely go for it! But don’t just keep the promise to yourself in your head.
It’s alright telling ourselves we are going to work out, but once we write it down and tell other people, that is when the magic actually happens.
If you are part of our community, this is exactly what our daily 7pm accountability post in the private Facebook group is for. It is there every single day, whether we are running an official reset or not. It is your opportunity to write down exactly what you are going to do. Once you’ve posted it, you know I have seen it, and you know everyone else in the group has seen it. Therefore, you have to do it!
Accountability is the secret weapon to making sure we actually do the things we promised ourselves we would do.
